Breast Health at Coastal Women’s Healthcare
We provide comprehensive breast imaging, including screening and diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds, to support early detection and evaluation of breast conditions. Our modern, patient-focused environment ensures comfort and privacy, while our experienced team delivers accurate, detailed results.
All breast imaging is read by Spectrum Medical Group radiologists, who provide results to your physician. Normal mammograms are confirmed via letter with guidance for your next screening. Diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds are scheduled when a radiologist is onsite for same-day interpretation.
Preparing For Your Appointment
Wear a two-piece outfit so you can easily change from the waist up for your mammogram
Avoid deodorant, lotion, or powder on breasts or underarms
For screening mammograms, try to schedule when breasts are least tender - 1-2 weeks after your period, if applicable
Screening Mammograms
For women without symptoms, typically two to three images are taken of each breast. Occasionally, additional images may be requested; this does not necessarily indicate cancer. Mammograms are specialized X-rays that can detect breast changes that may not be felt during a physical exam.
Diagnostic Mammograms
Used to evaluate a lump, symptom, or abnormality, or to follow up on a screening finding.
Breast Ultrasounds
Use sound waves to create detailed images and are often used to evaluate lumps, changes, or dense breast tissue. This procedure is typically painless and usually takes 15–30 minutes.
