When should I start seeing a gynecologist?

ACOG recommends the first visit between ages 13–15, typically focused on education and building trust—not necessarily a pelvic exam.

What’s included in a well-woman exam?

A well-woman (annual) exam is a preventive visit that may include a physical, breast and pelvic exams, a Pap smear, STI testing, and conversations about birth control, periods, and overall health.

When should I get my first Pap smear?

Pap smears begin at age 21 and are usually done every 3 years. HPV testing is added after age 30. These screenings help detect early signs of cervical cancer.
