Prenatal Care - What to Expect

Early prenatal care supports healthier pregnancies, fewer complications, and better outcomes for both you and your baby. Our team of physicians and advanced practice clinicians provides personalized care tailored to your needs.

First Trimester

Weeks 6-13
  • Confirmation Ultrasound: Around 9 weeks to confirm pregnancy and establish your due date.
  • Initial OB Visit: Following your confirmation ultrasound. Review medical and family history, medications, and available genetic testing options.
  • Routine Labs: Blood type & Rh factor, CBC, rubella immunity, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B & C, hemoglobin A1C, and urine screening.
  • Genetic & Carrier Screening: Optional bloodwork, available as early as 9 weeks.
  • Early Fetal Screening Ultrasound: Assessment of early fetal anatomy between 13–14 weeks.
  • Follow-Up OB Visit: After your early fetal screening ultrasound. Includes physical exam (breast exam, pelvic exam, Pap smear if due) and any additional labs if needed.

Second Trimester

Weeks 14–27
  • Routine Visits: Weight, blood pressure, fundal height (starting at 20 weeks), and fetal heartbeat check.
  • Fetal Anatomic Survey Ultrasound: Around 20 weeks, to check fetal anatomy and growth.
  • Gestational Diabetes Screening: One-hour glucose test with blood draw at 24 weeks.

Third Trimester

Weeks 28–40
  • Routine Visits: Same checks as second trimester.
  • Third-Trimester Planning: Discuss delivery and circumcision consents, birth plan, breast pump order, and pediatrician resources.
  • Rhogam Injection: At 28 weeks, if Rh negative.
  • Tdap Vaccine: Around 32 weeks, if desired.
  • Syphilis Testing: Repeating testing closer to delivery.
  • Group B Strep (GBS) Screening: At 36 weeks, vaginal/rectal culture.
  • Cervical Exams: As needed in final weeks to monitor labor readiness.
