Recommended Vaccines in Pregnancy

Vaccines help protect both you and your baby from serious illnesses. Some vaccines are specifically recommended during pregnancy to provide protection for the newborn and reduce the risk of maternal complications. Our practice follows the guidance of ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) and SMFM (Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine) regarding vaccines in pregnancy.

Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)

Timing

27–36 weeks (offered at 32-week visit)

Purpose

Protects newborn from whooping cough

Influenza (Flu)

Timing

Any trimester during flu season
(Seasonally Oct–Apr)

Purpose

Protects mother from flu complications and passes immunity to baby

COVID-19

 

Timing

Any trimester

Purpose

Reduces risk of severe illness, passes antibodies to baby

Pharmacy or PCP office (no prescription needed)

Abrysvo (RSV)

Timing

32–36 weeks (Seasonally Sept-Jan)

Purpose

Protects newborn from RSV in first months of life
